As globalization makes our world more intricately connected, it is no surprise to see the innovative field of music therapy reaching more international communities than ever before. The Engine of Cultural Humility is a course to help explain, encourage and promote ethical interactions and exchanges for music therapists working in intercultural settings.
This course offers insight for the music therapist seeking to facilitate in spaces culturally different than their own or interested in developments on the international stage. Gain deeper understanding of cultural humility, of navigating socio-political landscapes and how to lean in to a community’s pre-existing therapeutic music culture while harmoniously introducing the evidence-based Western Music Therapy model we have all been trained within.
Completing this course will help you contemplate how music therapy addresses humanity’s needs within today’s diverse and complex global issues, while allowing you to integrate this knowledge into your own practice at home. Completing this course will allow you to more effectively be self-aware of your own cultural identity and how identity serves the therapeutic space within intercultural experiences. It can also assist you with surveying if and how music therapy programs might be built or integrated where they previously were not available and ultimately help make music therapy accessible to all.
