What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is the clinical use of music to reach social, emotional, physical and cognitive goals.

Music Therapy is a thriving field that is continuing to grow in research and implementation in various settings in the United States and most of the western world. Although music has been used as a way of healing for centuries, certain places in the world do not have the university programs or resources in place for music therapy services to be accessed. Umoja strives to bring this evidenced-based practice as a tool for healing and community building and to advocate for the creation of educational programs to developing countries globally.

To learn more information about this growing field visit the World Federation of Music Therapy and the American Music Therapy Association websites.
